You are Invited to Participate in the
Free Introductory Balanced Rock Sculpture Workshops
In the ACCI Gallery Garden With Zach Pine

 view of balanced rock sculptures

12 noon-1:30 pm
Friday May 18th and Friday May 25th, 2007
(register for one only)

An art form and a working meditation practice, creating sculpture with balanced stones connects you to the earth, the force of gravity, and your body. Mindfulness enables you to balance the rocks; "letting go" enables you to accept the fragility and transience of the work.

Each workshop includes instruction on basic techniques and physics of balancing, in an atmosphere of playful exploration. Digital photographs of your work will be provided.

These introductory workshops are free of charge - you are encouraged to bring a rock with you as a donation for our use.

We will work in the garden of the ACCI Gallery, 1652 Shattuck Avenue, Berkeley, CA 94709, between Cedar and Virginia (map).

Comments from the 2006 workshops:

"That was truly a gift to take and use over and over again. Thanks so much for opening up my world to rocks and balancing. Very cool!"

"I am mulling the lessons about finding center and tripodal balance points, observing that (characteristically) I plunged ahead trying to create structure based on precarious, interdependent balancing acts. Ah, who knew that rock sculpting was a practice, too."

Enjoy these photos from the 2006 workshops, and this gallery of my balanced rock sculptures.

Maximum 5 participants each workshop. Registration required.
